Spring Cleaning for Your Hair Routine: Out with the Old!

Spring is officially here, and while you might be deep-cleaning your closets or reorganizing your kitchen, there's one place most of us forget to freshen up—our hair routines!

Let’s talk about spring cleaning your brushes and clearing out expired products—because your hair deserves nothing but the best.

First Up: Clean Those Brushes

Hairbrushes can build up a lot of gunk—think old hair, product residue, oils, and even dust. If you can’t remember the last time you cleaned yours… it’s probably time. 😅

Here’s a quick brush-cleaning checklist:

✅ Remove all hair from the bristles

✅ Soak the brush in warm water with a few drops of gentle shampoo

✅ Use an old toothbrush to scrub between bristles

✅ Let it air dry completely before using again

If your brush is cracked, missing bristles, or has a funky smell even after washing—it might be time to replace it.

Toss Expired Hair Products

Did you know most hair products expire 12–24 months after opening? Using old or expired products can actually harm your hair or scalp—plus, they just won’t work as well.

Check your product stash for:

• Changes in smell or texture

• Dusty caps, dried-up formulas, or separation

• Faded or missing labels (aka you have no clue when you bought it)

📆 Pro tip: Write the date you open a product on the bottom with a Sharpie so you can keep track!

What to Keep vs. Toss

Keep:

✔ Products you've used in the last 3–6 months

✔ Anything unopened and within the expiration window

✔ Brushes, combs, or hot tools in good shape

Toss or Donate:

❌ Products that are expired or separating

❌ Tools that snag, pull, or are broken

❌ Stuff you never use (be honest—it’s just taking up space)
